In Argentina, we celebrate Friendship Day every July 20th. This date was established in 1972 by Enrique Ernesto Febbraro, a dentist from Buenos Aires who also studied philosophy and history, and had a deep interest in human-related topics.
The arrival of man on the Moon, on July 20, 1969, inspired Febbraro to declare that day as "Friendship Day." This event, one of the most significant achievements of the century, represented cooperation and camaraderie among human beings.
Worldwide, Friendship Day is celebrated on July 30th, a date with its origins in the World Friendship Crusade, established in Paraguay in 1958.
On another note, "Fellowship" was the name chosen for the Fokker F-28 in a contest among the company’s employees. This name referred to the cooperation between friends to build the aircraft, representing the collaboration between Fokker, Rolls Royce, VFW, and HFB. In a way, it followed the sequence from "Friendship" to "Fellowship."
The name of the Fokker F-27, on the other hand, alludes to friendship, as it was a friendly airplane capable of landing almost anywhere and serving many isolated communities. It was said that, for a "Friendship," there was nothing better than a "Fellowship."
Therefore, we want to celebrate with you this July 20th as Friendship and Camaraderie Day, especially in connection with the Fokker F-28. We encourage you to spread this celebration by sharing this special post, which features Queen’s iconic song, "Friends Will Be Friends".
